Shazam
Other platforms
Shazam is a free app for iOS, Android, and Android Wear watches. It is a tool for discovering music by listening to what is currently playing in order to identify that name of the song and the artist.
For a song recognition app, Shazam is impressive. I heard a song from a YouTube video and it gave me what I've been looking for. Amazing! 👍
by Andrés Ochoa
Shazam's such a great idea, but in execution, not so much. Some of the music I've thrown at it, it doesn't even seem to try; that is, more obscure stuff, like, say, a Shriekback song, it just gives up. Still, for the mainstream junk that you're likely wanting to know if it's the latest Kesha or Katy Perry or Taylor Swift or whatever fluff, it's pretty decent. More

I was riding a taxi on my way to work when I heard a K-pop song I really liked but I forgot who sang it, good thing I have Shazam on my phone and data. I learned it was DDD by EXID and I've been listening to the song ever since. I also recently learned that when you Shazam songs it counts on the artist's digital sales which is hella cool. More
by Ethan Nichols
It's a decent app for a quick and dirty shot at identifying a song. Far from perfect, but worth keeping. A good first choice to try and cut your research time short. More
by Randy Watson
Shazam is my go-to application for identifying music I enjoy when I hear it. It can recognize the song even in loud bars, and can help you download and purchase the song to listen to on your own! More
by Raymond Aguilar
Shazam sometimes for some reason will just not identify songs for you even when your right next to the speaker. Other than that the app usually works well More

by Tammy Wells
If you're more for identifying lyrics in the track than the actual songs, genius is the best option. I trust Genius with newly released lyrics so I tried this app and hasn't disappointed me so far! It doesn't only tell me what song to listen to but also about the artist! More
by Jose Campbell
The lyrics feature and it's large library of songs available make this very useful. Another thing that makes this nice is that it provides information and the artists and songs. More
by Larry Kelley
It looks like a good app and one that is appealing to teens. I would add something different than the smiley emoji face that might appeal to a larger group of people. More
by Angela Hunt
The design looks kind of primitive. It also looks like there are compatibility problems that should be addressed with a number of devices.
SoundHound is the free music discovery app that can listen and identify what's playing. The music player gives you full-length songs and videos with real-time song lyrics.
by Ridhi Pawar
Out of all the song recognition apps that I tried, SoundHound is the one for me. It can even find me an Indian song. That's how it caters a wide range this app can be. More
by Vihaan Patil
The identification rate for Soundhound really seems low to me. Every song I've tried to have it recognize, it's failed. However, when I let loose a rip-roaring fart, it suggested a K$sha track, so maybe it's got some redeeming value after all. More
by George Russell
I personally prefer soundhound over shazam because its interface is more my style and it registers songs quicker. I often hear songs that I don't know the title of and hound makes it so easy to identify songs! More
by Christian Reyes
I really like Soundhound! I have the worst memory for names of songs. They get stuck in my head and all I can remember is the tune or part of a chorus. This has been great! No more wondering all day what a song is! More
by Mick Fang
This is my favorite app for figuring out songs! This was just what I needed, now when I hear a song I can't put my finger on I can actually figure out what it is! More

MusiXmatch is a great way to identify songs because it has a really huge database of lyrics. If you can't find what you're looking for on this, the song probably doesn't exist. More
by Alan Luo
This app appears fantastic for finding lyrics and even translating ones from songs in different languages. It does however appear to have some annoying ads on it that are quite irritating. More
by Theresa Peterson
Recognizes lyrics and sinks with other apps which is cool
by Divya Tambe
The database for musiXmatch is lacking. It wasn't able to recognize some of the lyrics i was looking for.

by Abhinav Kapur
Apps for identifying songs is real cool. I use Google Now. I hit the listen button and usually after only seconds it recognizes the sound and tells me what it is. I always know what is playing now. I impressed my friends and family with this because they did not know you could do it. It is very simple. It is already built into most Android phones so most people already have it. More
by Virginia Hernandez
I wanted a new app for identifying songs I don't know on the radio. I used Google Now for this and was very disappointed. It wasn't correct most of the time. I suggest using a dedicated app for song identification rather than Google Now. More
by Ao Zou
Great functionality. It puts google right at your fingertip and since it is the best browser it makes sense to make it the focal point on your device.
by Jose Harris

by Leonardo Mata
After switching from apple to android my biggest problem was learning where all my apps were. This is an easy to use, clean interface that allows me to quickly find exactly what I am looking for in seconds instead of scrolling around. More

Siri is a computer program that works as an intelligent personal assistant and knowledge navigator. Ask Siri to set an alarm or a destination. Book a ride or a table. Send a payment or a love note. Even change the lighting in your room.
by Robert Meyer
Wait is Siri considered an app that tells you what song is playing? This is like a voice controlled personal assistant like Alexa eh.
by Benito Trejo
While Siri isn't perfect, she goes a long way in helping me figure out what a song is that I just can't remember. I can't think of a better source for instant song information other than Siri... Or a radio DJ if you happen to have one standing next to you. More
by Kyle Silva

It seems like a useful app, not very unique because I think there is already and app that does that.
by Debra Johnson
This app isn't very useful to me because it isn't available in my country. This seems like a real downfall in an app to not be available in one of the largest countries in the world. This seems like bad planning on their part. More
by Dhruv Jain
