#4"The horror genre has a huge selection of classic novels. There are older examples like Mary Shelley's Frankenstein or Bram Stoker's Dracula, but among the more recent examples is Stephen King's The Shining. Most people are more familiar with the film version, but the book is even better and much, much scarier!"
-
#5"I have been through my fair share of horror books but one that really sticks out for me would have to be Frankenstein. It's just a classic and it has so much good stuff in there. There is no way you would hate it. I would recommend you check it out. It's a very good read."
-
#6"Vintage King. Character development is so complete it gives this reader the feeling he is part of the story. A helpless voyeur, unable to do anything else but observe (almost like the character in "Autopsy: Room Four" from his collection, "Nightmares & Dreamscapes). Carrie's story is not only engaging, it is compelling and powerful. A young woman, possessed with unimaginable power in one of the most vulnerable times of a woman's life, struggles with the things in her life that makes her different. Her fragile ego is constantly being stressed by the ridicule she must endure and all the hateful things done to her. The story could not have ended better, though, of course, bittersweet on an incredibly horrible scale. (Incidentally, the movie with Sissy Spaceck and John Travolta is really quite good, and does not harm, whatsoever, to the book.) Of course I'd recommend buying this if you are looking for best horror and thriller books."

#11"Great book and a welcome change from the sparkly pretty boy vampires that are all the rage today. No one is going to be making out with these blood suckers. This book is both refreshingly new and wonderfully old fashioned. Just make sure you read it with the lights on!"
-
#12"I enjoyed the original version of this story and I think it was Stephan King's best work to date, or at least close to the top. This is a great story to tell concerning the demise of mankind at their own doing where a line is drawn between good and evil. This story being offered in the kindle version is a good idea as it brings exposure to a greater audience with the ease of convenience."

#30"If you enjoy the Supernatural television series then I think this novel offers a pretty exciting side story to fans. It offers a more in depth look at the characters that we've seen in the show for many seasons now and you'll enjoy the ride the whole way through. I finished this book within a day or so, it's certainly a great read!"

#33"I love the show supernatural, I didn't know they had books, I stumbled across them while browsing amazon. I decided to purchase Supernatural: Night Terror to check it out. Reading tie-in books based on TV or movies is always hit-or-miss, depending on the author's understanding and interpretation of the characters and settings; however, in this case, reading the story was just like watching an extended episode of the show. The portrayals were very close to the Winchester boys' characters, and it was very easy to let my mind's eye create the visuals while reading this story."
-
#34"The main problem I have with this comment is that the Topic title isn't capitalized. I like how the "solution" goes directly to an Amazon product, even though I wouldn't use this personally. I also have trouble believing that this this is one of the "best" horror books when there are so many others out there. The book is about as scary as a squeaky door, so this did not solve my problem."

#47"The Fear Street Saga is one of my daughter’s favorite book series’, and she really enjoyed reading all 3 of them. I highly recommend it to other youngish kids (or their parents who want to get them a wholesome present). It’s short (about 200 pages), scary, fun and interesting, which is everything you can ask for in a kids’ novel. It’s the same author as wrote Goosebumps, so if you’re not sure, get your kid one of those books and ask if they want more. If they say yes, this is the full-length version :)"

#48"I was traveling a lot over the past few years and I wanted to make sure I spend time in the afternoon with my 12 year old daughter. I was looking for something exciting and frightening to share with her while she reads to herself at night. I found this scary book called "Halloween Party (Fear Street)" which is a very well written horror novel by R.L. Stine that allows children to use their imagination and experience while exploring supernatural adventures. My daughter absolutely loves the story. Thank you Halloween Party (Fear Street)!!"

#50"I love horror movies and books so I enjoyed this book very much. The writing is quite good and the plot keeps you engaged. There are some good plot twists as well to keep you guessing. I bought this for my daughter to read and I always read them first to make sure they are age appropriate and this was. I was pleased overall with the story and the writing. Is it the best? No but the stories are fun and engaging."

#54"This is a somewhat large collection of Lovecraft's stories, 21 in total, in one gorgeous volume. Some of the classics are included, as well as some of his lesser-known stories. There are a few that are rare gems, and I've never seen them in print anywhere else, which makes this a must-have for any Lovecraft fan."

It's not necessarily very original, but if you are a fan and familiar with Brett Talley's work, you will not be disappointed. With great imagry, smooth dialoge, and a smooth flow to it, horror fans will enjoy this."

#63Also ranked #4 in horror books not written by Stephen King"There's always a risk in buying story collections as there's always just one or two winners packed along with endless filler, and this one is no different. Most of the stories in here are awkwardly written and less scary and more incomprehensible. Pretty sure the horror was supposed to be what was written about as opposed to the writing style itself. Still a couple of the stories really stand out."

The characters are the real shining stars of this book and you'll grow to love them, hate them, and want to read more of them!"
-
#71"When the novel opens, we are introduced to Dwight, the sixteen-year-old narrator of the story (or maybe he's seventeen -- the fact that I can't remember is a clear indicator of how much of an impression this book made on me), and his pals, the slightly overweight Rusty and tom-boy Slim. It becomes evident early on that Dwight has the hots for Slim, but he isn't confident enough to do anything about it. Based on his thoughts early on in the story, you can imagine he spends quite a bit of his time masturbating or taking cold showers, but I'll come back to this."

#74"Finding good horror books can be difficult sometimes. So when I stumbled upon this book, I was pleasantly delighted to that I had come across one of the better ones. The main character acquires and ability to step into the bodies of other people (body ride). This makes for really interesting viewpoints and character interactions and also sets up a fight against an evil force through the rest of the book. Much better than average horror book, and worth a look."

When I reread it, it was a fun trip into the past. I don't think it's a very well written book, but it's enjoyable to read for the humor, or to remember your childhood."

#82Also ranked #8 in Goosebumps series books"Goosebumps was a series I've always enjoyed reading as a kid, and hearing that this particular book has been brought back and re-published, I decided to pick it up and read it again. Of course, having had a few years since the last time I read this book, I'm a little more jaded to the action that was going on. I wouldn't necessarily call this a horror book, at least for adults. More like an suspense book. However, since these books ARE designed for the child-mind, I suppose creeping around in a mysterious tomb with a mummy possibly stalking you can be quite creepy."

Illustrated by Austin Osman Spare."

Each of the stories offered suspense and horror, although I particularly enjoyed the short stories The Lagerstatte and Catch Hell. Each of the remaining 7 stories were also great and I definitely will be getting more of Laird Barron's books."

#90"This is a work of literature which really makes you think and question your life in some ways. This book is about a man, his wife, twins, his family in general. He comes out to find some very disturbing things about them that frightens him and he's not sure how to deal with it. Definitely a thriller to keep you flipping through the pages."
