"I love the thrill of reading a book and being scared, not like watching a movie. In a book you are eager and scared at the same time to turn the page. The Shining had me on the edge of my seat. I would close the book a few times because it got me scared. I almost didn't want to finish it, but I couldn't stay away. It is so much different than watching a movie because you become a character in the book and you feel what they are feeling. It consumes you. It was definitely scary."

"Four Past Midnight is an amazing collection of horror stories from the master Stephen King, but I don't think it's his best work in the terms of scariest. He has a few other books that are scarier, but this one is still high on the list."

"I like the idea of an 3rd person perspective on this book but the subject isn't really scary. this book seem very generic and boring."

"I can remember staying up late at night as a kid because I'd read an Edgar Allan Poe story and couldn't fall asleep afterwards. As an adult, most of those stories are even more unsettling."

"This reads like Paranormal Activity fan-fiction, which I suppose could be a good or bad thing depending on your personal tastes. In my opinion it was just okay. Not good, but not really bad. I doubt I'd call it the scariest book of all time by far."

""Phantoms" is not a bad read though I would hardly call it one of the scariest books of all time. It is certainly not on par with "The Exorcist" or "The Shining". Not a bad read but not great either."

"I am a huge fan of reading. This book is one of my favorites. This is a fictional story about a town where strange things occur. This is a thriller that will have you on the edge of your bed during everything chapter. This contains magic spells, folklore and good old fashioned characterization."

"Truly a classic. This is something you should definitely read if you're a fan of horror and suspense. It's a bit dated now and not quite up to modern trends but at it's core is a great book and at times terrifying!"

"The ruins is easily one of the best scary books of all time. Somehow it's both terrifying, and hard to put down. If you want to read something that's both scary and very well written I can't think of a better book to recommend."

"I don't know if I'd call this the scariest book of all time. It's certainly rich with a well-constructed atmosphere, and several parts of the book deliver a sense of suspense, dread, and even a sense of claustrophobic powerlessness on behalf of the reader and the lead character. It's worth a read if you're into a supernatural horror or classic pop literature for sure."

"Carrie is a great and strong book about a girl with a gift, it is a classic King novel that tells a great story while also being a thriller"

"You are all alone for the weekend and need something to get distracted by. This will do the trick. Salems lot is a book that grabs you by the neck and keeps your attention as long as you are sitting down. It will have you hooked. Stephen King does what he knows best, and that is keep us wanting more! Its a delight the way this story unfolds throughout the chapters."

"I do believe that Pet Sematary is a good solution to this. Stephen king writes really scary stories, and I personally have read this book. This book would be good for someone who wants a scary story for something that they would want to read. It may not be the scariest of all time, but it is a very scary book."

"Turn of the Screw is a great book. It is scary, but in a different way, I'd say making it miss the best of list because it's not "make me sleepless" kind of scary like many others are."
