DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that skis already existed between 8000 and 7000 BC? Those earliest skis were discovered in Russia. This proves that skiing was already done though not exactly for its current purpose. Some of the first skis were short and broad, resembling snowshoes more than modern skis. Despite skiing originally traced from Europe, the first written references to skiing are from China's Han dynasty. This proves that skiing was far more widespread than what we might have thought even in prehistoric times. Though this period is still far from the era of ski apps for Apple watch and other devices.

Skiing soon evolved both as a recreation and as a sport. One of the first competitions was a cross-country skiing race at Tromso Norway, in 1843. The first big ski-jumping event took place at now Oslo in 1879. In 1924 the Fédération Internationale de Ski was founded as the world governing body for skiing. World championships that it sanctioned been held since 1925 for men and since 1954 for women. From that time, skiing as an activity has largely expanded and developed. Today, even your smart gadgets can have a ski app. These ski apps for Apple watch, for example, can track time records, distances, and your activity.
