    DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that Latha R Prasad of Kerala, India currently holds the Guinness World Record for spelling 50 words backward in record time? Last January 8, 2017, Prasad made her third attempt to set the record for spelling 50 words backward and she managed to spell it in only 1 minute and 7.53 seconds. Looking back at the history of English spelling, the language brought to Britain by the Anglo-Saxons (invaders from North Germany) in the 5th century has grown from three different phases: Old English, Middle English, and Modern English. However, there were many changes in each phase. And for centuries, there has been a movement to reform the spelling of English. It seeks to change English spelling so that it is more consistent, matches the pronunciation better, and follows the alphabetic principle. Common motives for spelling reform involve a cheap and quick way so that the English language would be more useful for international communication.

Today, hundreds and even millions of people speak English all over the world. Whether it is their first language or second language, or just one of the foreign languages that they speak and learn at school. Rapidly moving technology has also played a major role. Applications intended for learning English spelling, grammar, and dictionaries are now made available for our smartphones.

"I really like the idea for this app! This app is useful for ages 3 to adult. What I like most about this is the ability to use speech to text and in the preferred font and colored background that is easiest to read for the user. It also has the ability to incorporate translation to another language, and with speech output this could even be useful for someone learning a new language! Although marketed as a spelling aid this app is far more useful than that! The only thing that I can see that could be improved is having the ability to use it offline."

"SpellTower is not a very compelling game. Yes, it challenges your spelling but it's more about speed and beating a Tetris like board than it is about spelling. It will frustrate more than stimulate your brain. Also it is very slow and buggy."
