DID YOU KNOW?

The root of strategy games traces back to table and board games such as Risk? They transitioned over to other platforms such as computers and consoles before long. With this transition though, they felt somehow familiar despite the change. This is because early games were ports, and sometimes, exact copies of the same games. One example of this is the game, Invasion, released for the Magvanox Odyssey. It was like Risk that features Pong-like battles. With the advent of microprocessors and computers allowed for further development of games. By the 1980s, strategy games covered a wider set of themes and topics. From war-based games to sci-fi themed games. Reach for the Stars was a prime example of the latter at the time. This game exemplified the concept of 4X-style games before it was even coined.

That basic concept has persisted and remained the main basis for strategy games. Throughout the years all the way to today. Strategy games have had a sort of slump in recent years. Then came heavy-hitters that would revitalize the ailing genre. Games like Sid Meier's Civilization, Command & Conquer, and Warcraft. All these games played a major role in the reviving popularity of strategy games. The same happened in the mobile space. There are plenty of great strategy game titles on smartphones like the iPhone. There are plenty of strategy games for the iPhone that you can play for free. Most of them are of high-quality as well.
